What you own when you buy Aned Book, and what a lapsed renewal does and does not stop.
An Aned Book licence is a one-time payment for one billing counter. It is perpetual: it does not expire and there is no monthly fee to keep the software running.
The licence is issued against the computer it will run on, and includes twelve months of updates and support counted from the day it is activated — not from the day it was issued, so time on a dealer's shelf never comes out of your year.
On Lite and Basic, when the twelve months end:
On Silver and Gold, which are sold as yearly subscriptions and say so at the point of sale, billing does stop if the renewal is left — 29 days after the date, with two warning stages before it. Even then nothing is deleted, and moving to a perpetual Basic licence brings billing back permanently.
Come back after three years and it is an ordinary renewal at the ordinary price. There is no penalty for having been away.
Upgrading costs the difference in licence price and nothing else. Your renewal date does not move while support is running.
The terms your licence was sold under are recorded inside the licence itself. A change we make later applies to licences issued after it, never to yours.
